| BENJAMIN HOOKE ANDERSON (Natl # 105032) is a descendant (2nd great-grandson) of Captain William Blaine and (3rd great-grandson) of his father Lieutenant James G. Blaine. Ben was the fourth President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1977. He was a Charter Member having joined the Naples Chapter at its inception 1973. He was born on November 13, 1908 in Andersonburg, Pennsylvania; he died on August 31, 1983. JAMES BENNETT APPLEGATE is the descendant of Private Daniel Applegate and Colonel Israel Shreve. Jim was the 26th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 2004-2006. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1998. He served as 1st Vice President (2003-2004), 2nd Vice President (2002) and Secretary (1999-2001). He serves currently as Committee Chairman for Awards* (2005-2007), E-mail* (1999-2007) and Newsletter Editor (2007-2008). He received the Service Lapel Pin & Certificate (2005). His wife served as Sunshine Committee Chair* (2004-2007). Dr. PHILIP EDWIN BALLOU is the descendant of Thomas Bowen. Phil was the 22nd President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1998-1999. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1994. He served as Treasurer* (2003-2006) and Historian* (2002-2006). He also served as Committee Chairman for Nominating (2003-2006), Good Citizenship (1996) and Oration Contest (1995). He has received a number of awards including Meritorious Service Medal (1999), Distinguished Service Medal (2000) and the Service Lapel Pin & Certificate (2005). Served as F.L.S.S.A.R. Historian. He was born in Clarion, Iowa. Staff Sergeant in United States Army Air Force (1943-1964). Master's degree from Drake University (1952) and Doctorate (Administration, Psychology) from University of Northern Colorado (1960). Professor at Ball State University, Indiana (1960-1988). Member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge. JOHN E. BEEBE, JR. is the descendant of Amon Beebe. Colonel John Beebe was the ninth President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1983-1984. He joined the Naples Chapter prior to 1982 (still locating records) - he died in 1992. He served as Vice President (1982-1983). He also served as Committee Chairman for Charter Day (1990-1992), Charter Luncheon (1984-1990); R.O.T.C. (1984-1991), Nominating (1988-1989), Constitution Bicentennial (1986-1987), Patriotic Education (1982-1983) and Membership (1981-1982). JOSEPH HEBER BISHOP, JR. He was a Charter Member having joined the Naples Chapter at its inception in 1973. He died on October 21, 1975. He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve in 1944-1946. DONALD BARTON CAHILL is a descendant of Dr. Francis Kittredge, Jr. of Billerica, Massachusetts. He currently serves as Regional Vice President for the Florida Society S.A.R., as well as Chapter duties including.Eagle Scout Committee Chairman. WALTER JOHN CHESNEY, JR. is the descendant of Edward Keller. John was the 16th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1991. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1987. He served as Senior Vice President (1989-1990) and Treasurer (1995-1997). He also served as Committee Chairman for Ceremonies/Observances (1992-2006) and Good Citizenship (1990-2004). DENNIS CLAYTON CONN is a descendant of minute man Abel Jones of Delaware. Dennis was the seventh President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1981-1982. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1978 and was a member until 1997. He served as Chaplain (1983-1984) and Committee Chairman for Oratorical Contest (1982-1984). RALPH NORMAN CRAMER is the descendant of Private Lewis Fryburger. Ralph was the 14th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1989. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1987 and is a Life Member. He served as First Vice President (1987-1988) and Secretary (1986-1987). He also served as Committee Chairman for Awards (1992-2002), Nominating (1990-1994; 1996-2002) and Executive Committee (1988-1989). He received a number of awards including the National Certificate of Appreciation (1998) and a special recognition for his service (2005). He served as F.L.S.S.A.R. President (1988-1989) and National Trustee (1997) DONALD DARLINGTON DILLWORTH is the descendant (3rd great-grandson) of soldier James Dilworth of Pennsylvania. Donald was the eleventh President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1985-1986. He joined the Naples Chapter prior to 1982 (still locating records) - he died in 1995. He served as Secretary (1983-1985) and Chaplain (1986-1988). He also served as Committee Chairman for Public Relations (1983-1984). He was born on October 12, 1912 in Blair, Wisconsin; he died on March 5, 1995. ROBERT COLEMAN GRESHAM is the descendant of Private Thomas Gresham. Bob was the 20th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1996. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1992. He served as First Vice President (1994-1995), Second Vice President (1993-1994) and Treasurer (1997-2002). He also served as Committee Chairman for Membership (1993-1995) and Program & Publicity (1994-1995). He received a number of awards including the Outstanding Citizenship Award (1998) and Distinguished Service Medal (2000). JOSEPH WIGGS HART, SR. is the descendant (2nd great-grandson) of soldier James Hart of North Carolina. Joseph was the second President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1974. He was a Charter Member having joined the Naples Chapter at its inception 1973. He was born on November 6, 1903 in Little Rock, Arkansas; he died on December 28, 1974. JAMES MADISON McGARITY III is a descendant of Lieutenant William McGarity, Sr..Jim was the 23rd President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 2000-2001. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1993. He has served as First Vice President (1997-1999) and Sergeant-at-Arms (2005-2006). He also served as Committee Chairman for R.O.T.C.* (1996-2006) and Oration Contest (1997-2000). He has received a number of awards including Outstanding Citizenship Award (1999) and the Meritorious Service Medal (2001). WALTER EARL MARLIN is the descendant of Archibald Marlin, Robert Walters and Thomas Walters. Earl was the 15th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1990. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1987. He served as Vice President (1989) and Secretary (1991-1998). He also served as Committee Chairman for Luncheon Reservations (1989), Nomination (1995), Budget & Finance (1996-1998) and Yearbook Editor (1992-2000). He received a number of awards including the Silver Good Citizenship Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster (1998), Plaque of Appreciation (1999) and the Outstanding Citizenship Award (2000). Through a Trust left by him to the F.L.S.S.A.R. the Earl Marlin Publicity Contest was created to award Chapters that excel in the publicity of the S.A.R. (see also his Obituary in the FALLEN COMPATRIOTS section) DENNIS E. MODESITT is the descendant of ____. Dennis served as the 17th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1992. He joined the Naples Chapter in ____. He received a number of awards including the Meritorious Service Medal and an Oak Leaf Cluster (1998). WILLIAM H. MORSE is a descendant of Captain Samuel Morse, Jr. of Massachusetts. Bill served as the eighth President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1982-1983. He is a Charter Member having joined the Naples Chapter at its inception 1973. He was also Committee Chairman for Ceremonies/Observances (1988-1992) and Good Citizenship (1988-1989). He died on December 29, 1993. ANDREW BARRY CROOK NICHOLLS III is the descendant of Andrew Barry. Barry was the 18th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1993. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1991. He served as Senior Vice President (1992) and Committee Chairman for Program & Publicity (1992). He received the Service Lapel Pin & Certificate (2005). ROBERT R. RANKIN Bob was the 13th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1988. CHARLES EDGAR RANSOM, JR. is the descendant of Lieutenant Samuel Patterson. CHARLES RADCLIFFE RHOADES, JR. is the descendant of William Brown. Charles was the 19th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1994-1995. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1977 - transferring from Iowa where he was a member since 1942. He served as Chaplain (1985) and Senior Vice President (1993). He also served as Committee Chairman for Program & Publicity (1993) and Law Enforcement (1999-2004). JOHN ANSON SMITH is the descendant of Thomas Carleton. John was the 21st President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1997. He is a Charter Member having joined the Naples Chapter at its inception 1973. He served as First Vice President in (1996) and Second Vice President (1995). He has also served as Committee Chairman for Program & Publicity (1996-1997). JOHN WILLIAM TAYLOR (Natl # 104382) is the descendant (3rd great-grandson) of Captain Thomas Ratiff of North Carolina. John was the 10th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1984-1985. He was born on December 21, 1906 in Geneva, Nebraska; he died on November 22, 1990. ALFRED STUBBS WALDEN (Natl # 108266) is the descendant (4th great-grandson) of Assistant Purser Jacob Walden aboard the Sloop of War Ranger. Al served as the sixth President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1980. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1975. He served as Secretary (1978) and Treasurer (1978-1979). DENNIS RAY WHITE is the descendant of Private James Elliott. Dennis was the fifth President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1978-1979. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1975. He served as Senior Vice President (1977), Treasurer (1975-1976) and Chancellor* (1982-2006). He also served as Committee Chairman for Eagle Scout Recognition/Boy Scout Liaison (1977-1998). He received the Service Lapel Pin & Certificate (2005). CHARLES ALANSON YOUNG (Natl # 104376) is the descendant (3rd great-grandson) of minute man Jabez Gerould of Massachusetts. Charles served as the third President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 1975-1976. He is a Charter Member having joined the Naples Chapter at its inception 1973. He served as Secretary (1973-1974, 1976-1978). He was a retired Colonel in the United States Infantry Reserve in 1924-1960. PAUL FRANKLIN YOUNG is the descendant of Captain Josiah Records. Paul was the 25th President of the Naples Chapter - serving in 2003-2004. He joined the Naples Chapter in 1999. He served as First Vice President (2002-2003) and Second Vice President (2001-2002). He has also served as Newsletter Editor* (2004-2007). He currently serves as Treasurer (2007-2008) and as Color Guard Commander (2006-2008).
