Tuesday, 06 June 2006 Wednesday, 07 June 2006 Local Proclamations Celebrating 100th Anniversary of S.A.R. Congressional Charter The first events of the 2006-2007 year actually began during our summer layoff - that is after our May meeting - the last meeting of our 2005-2006 year. Newly elected Chapter President Don Cahill wrote letters to the Collier County Commission and the Mayor of Naples asking that both governments officially acknowledgement the 100th Anniversary of the Sons of the American Revolution Congressional Charter. Both eagerly complied and proclaimed June 9th, 2006 to be Sons of the American Revolution Day. On June 6, 2006 Compatriots John McCullough, Paul Young, Sam Cahill, Don Cahill, and Ed Lopus (seen in above photo L-R) visited the County Government Complex and received a Proclamation from County Commissioners Frank Halas (Chairman), Jim Coletta, Donna Fiala, Tom Henning, and Fred W. Coyle. On June 7, 2006 Compatriots Don Cahill, Sam Cahill, Ed Lopus, and John McCullough went to City Hall and received a Proclamation from the Mayor of Naples Bill Barnett and the City Council: William MacIlvaine, Gary Price II, John Sorey III, Penny Taylor, and William Willkomm.

Tuesday, 04 July 2006 Annual July 4th Independence Parade in Downtown Naples On July 4th, 2006 the Chapter celebrated Independence Day by participating in the annual parade downtown. Compatriots Phil Ballou, Jim and wife Joanne Applegate rode in a convertible emblazoned with the S.A.R.'s name waving to the crowd. They were followed by the Color Guard of John McCollough, Paul Young, Don and Sam Cahill marching in full period outfits and uniforms while Deborah Cahill pulled daughter Magnolia, both in period dress, in a wagon with the latter tossing candy to other children along the parade route. It was a hot, humid Florida day to be wearing wool or gabardine coats, but morale was high and the crowd loved seeing the Compatriots and flags moving down 5th Avenue South.

Tuesday, 05 September 2006 Naples Chapter Adopts a Polling Place at September 5th Primary Election The Naples Chapter took part in the Primary Elections in Collier County through the "Adopt A Precinct" program where our group manned every part of the Polling Place operations for Precinct 137 at Crown Pointe on September 5th, 2006. Color Guard Commander Paul Young took charge as Clerk with Sam Cahill as Assistant Clerk, Chaplain Charles Cortright as Poll Deputy, and Jim and Joanne Applegate, Ralph Cramer, Phil Ballou, John McCollough and Don Cahill as Poll Workers. All proceeds/salaries received from this event will go toward funding the Chapter's "Adopt A Uniform" program whereas the Chapter will reimburse any compatriot who purchases period clothing 50% of their costs. The Poll Workers not only work on election day but have to submit to training before each election, as the procedures are ever changing. This has been a very successful program, and though it requires participants to remain on-site from 6am to 8pm, is a fun event by all those who participate due to great commeradarie and a sense of serving the common good.

Friday, 27 October 2006 Saturday, 28 October 2006 Naples Chapter Hosted the FLSSAR Fall Board of Management in Kissimmee The Fall Board of Management meeting (or B.O.M.) was held on October 27-28, 2006 in Kissimmee and Naples Chapter played host to the event. What did that mean exactly? We manned the Registration Desk and checked-in all Compatriots attending the event and issued them their B.O.M. Package and IDs. We also stocked and operated the Hospitality Room and made sure that it was suitable for our fellows in their down time of which there was little. And finally we organized a continental brunch buffet for the Ladies Auxillary on Saturday morning. We had a number of volunteers who travelled to Kissimmee and spent a night or two at the Ramada Inn Gateway and made the Fall B.O.M. a success - these members were Jim Applegate, Ed & Fran Lopus, John McCullough, and Don and Sam Cahill. There was also much preparation for the event including collecting reservations and money in advance and well as making the nametags and tickets. After a successful event, with many compliments from our fellow Compatriots statewide, we handed over all the remaining stock and accoutrements to the next host Clearwater Chapter. Outfitted members of the Bernardo de Galvez Camp participated in the Color Guard presentation on Friday night. And both John and Sam were fortunate enough to win baskets of goodies in the raffle put on by the Ladies Auxillary.
