Chapter Salute to Law Enforcement Heroes

The November 2nd meeting of the Chapter
focused on Law Enforcement and Chairman
Ed Ferguson awarded State Trooper Jeff
Benoit with the Law Enforcement Award and
Certificate for his heroism during a recent car
chase against armed men. Trooper Mike
Grinder gave a presentation on the use of dogs
in drug interdiction. Two new members were
inducted into the Naples Chapter at this
meeting by Past President Ralph Cramer.
Secretary Jim Van Fleet let us know about his
progress with the Liberty Tree Project in
Collier County.

Chapter Polling Place on General Election Day

Following up on Adopt-a-Precinct Program from the September 5th
Primary Election - the Naples Chapter SAR manned the polling place for
Voting Precinct 137 at Crown Pointe Clubhouse on November 7th for the
General Election. Color Guard Commander Paul Young again led as Clerk
with Sam Cahill as Assistant Clerk, Chaplain Charles Cortright as Poll
Deputy, and Poll Workers Jim and Joanne Applegate, Ralph Cramer, Phil
Ballou, John McCollough, Don Cahill and Don Craig. Again all
proceeds/salaries received from this event will go toward funding the
Chapter's "Adopt A Uniform" program whereas the Chapter will reimburse
any compatriot who purchases period clothing for 50% of their costs.
Thanks to everyone who participated this year - another successful event!

Joint Meeting with the Daughters of the American Revolution

Our December meeting will be moved forward a few days to have a joint
meeting with the Big Cypress D.A.R. at the Country Club of Naples on
November 29th, 2006 to celebrate the 225th Anniversary of the Yorktown
victory. Bill Schustik "The American Troubadour" entertained the attending
audience with tales and songs from the colonial period. This was a
well-attended event with well-over 100 people. Our Color Guard led by
Paul Young presented the Colors at the beginning of the meeting. Due to
the popularity of this evening - we may make this an annual event.
The Bernardo de Galvez Color Guard makes the opening

Joseph Rumbaugh Oration Contest

Chairman Charles Cortright presented high school sophomore Ashley Forest who competed in the Joseph Rumbaugh Oration
Contest. She gave a wonderful five-minute speech on what Liberty meant to her - and won a $200 prize from the Chapter. She
will now attend the State Oration Contest later this month and compete for a $1,000 prize. Our guest speaker at this first meeting
of the New Year was Collier County Commissioner Donna Fiala who gave her "State of the County" report which was quite
informative detailing events like the many roadwork projects occurring today.

FLSSAR Winter Board of Management Meeting

President Don Cahill, First VP John McCollough, Second VP Sam Cahill and Oration Chairman Charles Cortright attended the
Quarterly meeting of the State Society. Chairman Cortright brought our Chapter Champion Ashley Forest to the meeting to
compete in the State Oration Contest where she put on a great presentation. In the end she came in second place and is the
back-up to attend the National Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia this summer. Our members participated in the State Sons of
Liberty Brigade Color Guard presentation at the Friday night banquet which was also attended by Ms. Forest, her mother and
younger sister. Ashley received $500 from the FLSSAR for her second place finish, plus another $200 from the Ladies Auxilary.
As President Cahill noted "$900 is not back for five minutes work!" For more information on future State meetings please go to

Regular Chapter Meeting at Elks Lodge

Chairman Colonel Jim McGarity III (retired) will be presenting the Outstanding JROTC Cadets from all of the County's public
high schools.  These students represent the best qualities of leadership, commitment and dedication to their community, and
will be awarded by the Chapter and their instructors for their outstanding work.

The Chapter Color Guard will take down the National flag at a dusk presentation in downtown Naples. All members with
colonial attire are encouraged to attend and participate. This will be our second consecutive year participating in this event.

Dedication of a New Monument to Honor
the Last Naval Battle of the American Revolution

The Brevard Chapter is sponsoring a dedication ceremony of a new Official Florida State Historical Marker at the New
Canaveral Port Authority to commemorate the Last Naval battle of the American Revolution fought on March 10th, 1783 off
the Florida Coast. All SAR and DAR Chapters are invited to participate and we intend to have members of our Color Guard
participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event. For more information follow these links: about the

Chapter Charter Day Celebration at Naples Athletic Club

Spend St. Patrick's Day with the Chapter at the Naples Athletic Club celebrating the 32nd anniversary of our Chapter Charter.
Chairman Charles Ransom has a wonderful program arranged including guest speaker County Manager Jim Mudd as well as
winner of the Outstanding JROTC Cadet Contest.The cost for the impressive evening meal is $30 per person. For more
